What’s your (fastest) internet speed? September 5, 2007

I just checked my connection speed using speedtest.net and i got 510kbps download and 86kbps upload. Speedtest

I’m using Globe’s 384kbps dsl + phone offer. This is fast enough for me considering i’m not willing to pay thousands just for my whims. If i’m using this for a business then i might consider upgrading my internet service.

We we’re chatting (and browsing) in the office when we encountered this article on the net. Read this for more info.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — She is a latecomer to the information superhighway, but 75-year-old Sigbritt Lothberg is now cruising the Internet with a dizzying speed. Lothberg’s 40 gigabits-per-second fiber-optic connection in Karlstad is believed to be the fastest residential uplink in the world, Karlstad city officials said….She isn’t exactly making the most of her high-speed connection. She only uses it to read Web-based newspapers.

We were like wadahek! imagine the possibilities! But come to think of it. If you have that kind of internet speed, what would you do? Assuming you also have the right computer that can handle this speed coz it’s gonna be useless if your personal computer crashes at the presence of multitasking.

Downloading a whole movie takes about 2 secs. You can watch a live streaming movie without any waiting for that long buffering. But if you’re just gonna watch a movie then use the TV and not the PC. So what else can you do? Play online games? It gets boring after a while. You can run a business, do multitasking, chat with different people around the globe all at the same time, etc etc. In the end you will still get bored will all of it.

Here in the Philippines, part of the excitement on being online is the waiting period especially if your connection is just dial up.

I think this is the fastest you can get in New York City?

Sorry, I had my line set up wrong!

Here’s the accurate results:

25 – 30 mb down / 5-6 mb up

This is from OptOnline (through CableVision in NYC)

I had my wireless router set up before, but no matter how fast your speed, if you hook up to a wireless router, your speed will be reduced tremendously; sometimes down to a quarter of the speed (as you can see in my previous post).
