Playing sudoku is easy. You just need a good logical head and the patience to finish the puzzle.

Your first question i suppose is, How is it played?

Sudoku is a 9×9 grid with 3×3 subgrids called regions.

Sudoku grid

The point of the game is fill all these blank grids with the numbers 1-9. There are three rules in doing so.

Rule 1: There should only be 1 number from 1-9 in each column.
Rule 2: There should only be 1 number from 1-9 in each row.
Rule 3: There should only be 1 number from 1-9 in each region.

Your next question would probably be, Is it hard?

Just like other puzzle games, there are some levels of difficulty in playing sudoku. Try the game with the easiest level first. I’m going to show you 2 basic tips.

Let’s use this image for the 1st tip.
tip1

• We want to find out where number 6 is located in the lower left region.
• Looking at the blue vertical arrow as guide, we see that since there is already a number 6 in the 1st column, the first column in the 3rd region shouldn’t have the number 6.
• Using another blue vertical arrow, we also see that since there is already a number 6 in the 2nd column, the second column in the 3rd region shouldn’t have the number 6 too.
• Now looking at the blue horizontal arrow, we see a number 6 in the last region meaning that 1st row in the lower left region shouldn’t have the number 6.
• This will give us only 1 blank space in the lower left region and this is gonna be where the number 6 is located.
tip1

So if we follow the same tip to find the location of another 6 this time in the right middle region, we now get the location of the number 6.
tip1

For the 2nd simple trick/tip. We now know the easiest level to find the location of a number. So what if we’re faced with 2 possible spaces for the location of the number? Look at this image.
tip2

In this image, we’re trying to find the location of number 7 in the right middle region. We have two possible place for it. In this instance, look at the other possible 7 in the vicinity.

• The gray squares represent the places where number 7 is not possible.
• If we look at the lower right region, the number 7 could only be located in the 2nd column.
• Since we can only have 1 number per column, that only means number 7 is not possible for the 2nd column in the right middle region.
• Which gives us the first block as the only place where number 7 is possible.

tip2

See! It is that easy to play. Now if you tire and you want to find the solution right away. Use this sudoku solver.

Mind you. Don’t use that all the time. You wont learn the tricks and trade of the game. ^_^
