We now have our own domain. Weeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We wanted to continue our online presence with a website of our own. I thought of some possible domain names like my surname, rafi’s surname and some combinations of our names. In the end the name Janrafi is born.

Come and visit our site Janrafi.com | Rags to Riches in the Cyberworld and join us in our journey as we try our hand in learning how to earn money online.

The subtitle was originally just “Earning Money Online” but rafi didn’t like it so he suggested this. Not bad if i may say so myself. We’re currently number one in the google serp for that phrase. Hahaha Good job for one week.

I said to myself that this is gonna be the blog that i will be updating regularly. Looks like i already made that statement false. Hahaha

Anyway, i am not updating this much because i am too busy with another site. Actually it is about this online game that i am playing. Perfect world online.

Although the Philippines version is different from the international one, due to different names and items, the basic gameplay and quests are the same.

So without further ado, i present Just Perfect - one of the best PW resource guide online (love your own of course).

Visit it if you want to learn about the game quests and such. I didn’t put anything regarding what the game is, i am assuming you know about it already. Although i might put up an informational guide there someday as to what this game is all about.

I am trying to find the formula for the defense. As for now, i still haven’t found it. I am also going to change the map in the interactive map.

I want to put there a stat calculator, an interactive map, skill calculator, monster interactive map.

Someday….

PS: i didn’t win in the contest but i was one of the finalists. Maybe next time i’m going to bag that prize.

Hi Winter,

If you had told me a year ago that having a boyfriend in game and in real life is possible, I wouldn’t have believed you. But that was my belief then, not now. Let me tell you why.

Reality sucks so they say. We wake up, go to work, go home, sleep then repeat the same cycle the next day. For me, my routine includes school and playing online.

Pretty hectic right? That’s why I swore off having a boyfriend. It wont fit my schedule anymore. I told my friends that it’s ok for me to have an online boyfriend coz I would only need to entertain him online. Talk about convictions. I even wrote in my blog that real and virtual lives don’t mix. My online boyfriend lasted a year but we broke it off because he wanted to be my real life boyfriend too. I told him on our first day that once reality sinks, that’s the time to cut the relationship loose. So I did… we did. Online is online. Real is real.

So how did I change my mind then you might ask? I played Ragnarok before. I have an officemate who was also my friend in game. One day he went to my station and he mentioned that he is now playing a new game called Perfect World. He even said he’d let me borrow his installer so I could try it out. I half-heartedly accepted it. I didn’t know my teammate heard. He said his twin is also playing the game and he said that if I am hesitating to play because I know nobody there, he would be willing to play too. He was playing Eve online that time so starting a new game would be something we would share.

His name is Rafi. He’s my teammate but we don’t talk to each other much. Ever since we played the game together, we found out bits and pieces about each other, mutual likes and dislikes. He was teasing me to another teammate of ours and I was doing to same to him to an officemate. They say “tulak ng bibig, kabig ng dibdib”. That was so true. Everytime I tease him, I always think “why can’t it be me?” I had begun to like him and I never thought that it would be vice versa.

One day while doing some quests, our partymate asked if I’m a girl. I said no. Rafi said “Oo babae yan, kaya nga mahal ko sha eh”. To put it mildy… I was shocked. His twin said, “sabi na nga ba!” That’s when I realized he was NOT joking and he meant what he said.

I didn’t say yes right then. But now we’ve just celebrated 4 months together. You know what Winter? Real and virtual lives can mix. I just never realized how simple it is until I’ve experienced it for myself. What can I say? Life in Perfect World is Just Perfect.

Sincerely,
Catherine

I was talking with an officemate, ex-teammate, of mine during my office break today. Since we’re both promoted to different groups, we rarely get to chat nowadays. So we chatted about his job now and my job and of course our old jobs.

He mentioned something that he learned from his peers. Since we were both floor agents before, we say sirs and maams to supervisors we see on the floor as a sign of respect to them. Ate and kuyas to the maintenance help we see cleaning up after us. He said that his peers once commented that he should not say sir or ma’am anymore to supervisors he sees on the floor. I asked him why is that? He said that his peers mentioned that since they are on equal ranks now with supervisors, he should stop using sirs and maams.

That got me into thinking…Is saying ma’am or sir not allowed anymore? Are we not allowed to say those just to show our respect to our equals? Are we not supposed to say sir or ma’am to the maintenance help we see on the floor just because they have different jobs?

I am not on equal ranking with supervisors so i still say ma’am or sir to them. But even if i am, i will still say ma’am or sir because i would want others to say the same to me.

I always say, “we learn new things each day” especially if i did learn something new. But if this is what i will learn.. then don’t bother. I won’t follow it.

Office Relationships September 23, 2007

There are many kinds of relationships we find inside our workplace. Some could be due to hate for the management or love for it. Filial relationship if it is a family business. Boss-employee respect or lack of it. Office drama unfolds everyday and sometimes it is nice to just sit back and watch it pass in front of your eyes. Rumors, intrigues and just plain chit-chatting. :D

From acquaintances to friends and sometimes it can even blossom into love. This kind of drama is often the talk of people around me and is the most common conversation piece especially if the people talking are from two different teams and have different problems with their own bosses.

How do you turn someone down without affecting your office relationship?
How do you move from just being friends to being more than that?
How do you give hints or make subtle moves?

Many “how do you” questions..

I have been a part of this office drama. It looks like I will be a part again of this same drama. Hahaha. I don’t know what to do.

Do you have the “Magic eye”? September 18, 2007

I first discovered this way back in high school. My dormmate brought a book and we looked at it for like.. HOURS before i got the hang of looking at the images and bringing out the 3d pictures in them.

From Wikipedia:

Magic Eye is a series of books published by N.E. Thing Enterprises (Renamed in 1996 to Magic Eye Inc.). The books feature autostereograms, which allow people to see 3D images by focusing on 2D patterns. The viewer must diverge his or her eyes in order to see a hidden three-dimensional image within the pattern. “Magic Eye” has become somewhat of a genericized trademark, often used to refer to autostereograms of any origin.

What is this 3d magic eye that i’m talking about? Look at this image. Tell me what you see.

As a normal image you would see many flowers. But if you look at the 3d side of it, there’s a hidden(?) image.. a heart. Where is it? :D

This is how we normally view any image we see:

normal

There are some guides out there on how you can view 3d images. There are 3 ways to see it.
1) Basically you try to look BEYOND the image and when the image gets blurry (don’t blink at this point) and then it will eventually clear up so you can see the 3d image. If you have a hard time focusing beyond the image. Try it this way… If you’re facing your CRT monitor. Look at the glare of the monitor and not the image.

2) Another trick is you use cross-eyed method. In tagalog: magduling ka.

duling

3) Nose-on-book method just means you put the image up to your nose and slowly move the image away. The trick is not to focus on the normal image. You will see the 3d image soon enough.

So now can you answer my question? Do you have the “magic eye”?

How shallow are you? September 10, 2007

Don’t judge a book by its cover
Beauty is only skin deep
Clothes don’t make a man

These are some of the sayings that advise us not to judge by physical appearances. I like to think that i am not shallow. That i don’t pre-judge a person by how he/she looks. But given a real situation, being honest, sometimes i doubt myself.

I have crushes on guys who look good, smell nice, exude charm and basically other positive things. I was reading a pocketbook yesterday and in the story, the guy was exchanging letters with the girl but the girl thought that the person she was writing to was the guy’s good-looking friend. His line was “Had you known it was plain and simple Simon me you were writing to, would you have continued to do so, or would you have written me a letter telling me what good friends we are and then set your gaze to another?”

I really think i don’t look at physical appearances but no matter how i try to be fair to everyone i meet i still cringe inside though i don’t show it when i get close to people who smell bad, etc. Am i shallow?

If you were Kenna (the girl in the story), how would you answer Simon’s question?

What’s your (fastest) internet speed? September 5, 2007

I just checked my connection speed using speedtest.net and i got 510kbps download and 86kbps upload. Speedtest

I’m using Globe’s 384kbps dsl + phone offer. This is fast enough for me considering i’m not willing to pay thousands just for my whims. If i’m using this for a business then i might consider upgrading my internet service.

We we’re chatting (and browsing) in the office when we encountered this article on the net. Read this for more info.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — She is a latecomer to the information superhighway, but 75-year-old Sigbritt Lothberg is now cruising the Internet with a dizzying speed. Lothberg’s 40 gigabits-per-second fiber-optic connection in Karlstad is believed to be the fastest residential uplink in the world, Karlstad city officials said….She isn’t exactly making the most of her high-speed connection. She only uses it to read Web-based newspapers.

We were like wadahek! imagine the possibilities! But come to think of it. If you have that kind of internet speed, what would you do? Assuming you also have the right computer that can handle this speed coz it’s gonna be useless if your personal computer crashes at the presence of multitasking.

Downloading a whole movie takes about 2 secs. You can watch a live streaming movie without any waiting for that long buffering. But if you’re just gonna watch a movie then use the TV and not the PC. So what else can you do? Play online games? It gets boring after a while. You can run a business, do multitasking, chat with different people around the globe all at the same time, etc etc. In the end you will still get bored will all of it.

Here in the Philippines, part of the excitement on being online is the waiting period especially if your connection is just dial up.

Do policemen have extra priviledges? September 2, 2007

My way to school and work is easy. I normally take the MRT (Metro Rail Transit) and then ride a jeepney to office or school. Today is not an exemption.

The MRT normally have the 1st train reserved for women, children and senior citizens. I suppose there are exemptions like those who work for MRT. I just don’t know if the exemptions include policemen.

My elder sister told me that government officials doing official business probably have that priviledge after all MRT is somewhat owned by the government.

So much for being strict with the rules. Policemen are guys and even though they are reporting for work and are working for the government, they shouldn’t have to ride in the 1st train. I even saw some of them sitting on the seats whereas there was a pregnant woman on board and they didn’t even stand up and give her their sitting place. Another woman stood up and gave up her seat. Now that is what i can being a gentlewoman as oppose to policemen being gentlemen. As it is there are many government workers riding the MRT / LRT everyday. How come they don’t get that special priviledge too? No wonder policemen have bad reputations.

Just musing..

Working in a cold environment September 2, 2007

Offices are normally cold especially offices in the business districts.

The first time I worked, I was teaching koreans english. In my small cubicle, there was no aircon and we had to use makeshift fans made out of cartons. When I started working in this call center I was amazed to see people wearing mini skirts and spaghetti straps when I was already freezing even though I was wearing a sweater plus wrapping a blanket over my body. I can’t fathom why their bodies can adjust to the coldness of the place.

It has been more than a year since i started working here and I still can’t get use to this air conditioned place. I can now wear spaghetti straps and mini-skirts / shorts but that is just because my shift starts at 2 pm where the airconditioners are not on at full blast. By the time the 8 pm shift starts, you can see me bundled up with teeth chattering in my station.

It’s a good think i have officemates with warm hands. When i start to feel cold, I touch my officemates’ hands just to feel warm then i go back to work and then when i feel cold again, i go and disturb my officemates again. Hahaha makes me sound like harrassing my officemates. I’m not doing that. How much harrassment can I give my officemates anyway?

ARGH! It’s actually frustrating because i can’t even use my electric fan at home now. If cold air touches my skin, I’d turn my fan off. Maybe because it’s already the “ber”-month. Nah. It’s just really cold.
